OBJECTS AND GAPS
On this release, Pulselovers and Listening Center explore inner visions of some of the outermost reaches of the Cosmos, providing proximate moods for objects and gaps of unthinkable distance and negative mass.

LISTENING CENTER - RA 14h 50m 0s | Dec +46° 0′ 0″
The title of this track is the set of co-ordinates of the approximate center of the Boötes supervoid, one of the largest known voids in the observable universe.The music was initially composed using a shift register/voice allocator which has the ability to shift melodies into “rounds” across multiple voices. With this, I used a sequence I had been playing around with and some MFB drum voices to do a live direct to stereo mix. I then composed some melodies and harmonies on my old Micromoog on top and then mixed everything down to 1/4” tape at 7.5 ips.

PULSELOVERS -  UY Scuti (BD-12° 5055)   
The red supergiant UY Scuti is one of the largest stars in the known universe (at least 1,000 times larger than our own sun). For the music, I wanted to give the star a relatable identity with a personality which perhaps betrays the sheer magnitude of its physical mass. To do this, I came up with a playful melody on the Dominion X and surrounded that with celestial arpeggios and a Bass Station solo. Everything is held together (as usual) with a bossanova-lite rhythm made up of CR-78 samples and some deep-space whooshes. The final mastering polish was provided by David.

"Comecemos por “RA 14h 50m =s I info Dec +46º 0’ 0”” (conjunto de coordenadas que permitem que se encontre uma estrela ou qualquer outro corpo celeste se usarmos o Skyview da NASA, por exemplo), peça de Listening Center que começa como a fanfarra que associaríamos um orgão de foles, antes de entrar pelo típico território que o projecto de David K. Mason tem avidamente explorado ao longo da última década (o músico britânico que reside nos Estados Unidos já conta cinco álbuns em nome próprio e vários singles lançados com carimbos como Ghost Box ou Polytechnic Youth): melodias que evocam uma era distante, algures a meio caminho entre um certo pastoralismo que informava a música para documentários televisivos dos anos 70 e os Ktraftwerk, com óbvia inspiração adicional colhida na discografia dos Boards of Canada."

"Já Pulselovers é o projecto de Mat Handley, nome bastante activo na cena hauntológica britânica através da sua editora Woodford Halse (e também com basto material cedido para lançamentos na A Year In The Country ou Castles in Space). No também obtusamente titulado “UY Scuti (BD- 12º 5055)” (outra referência a um “lugar” no vasto cosmos), Handley é mais declaradamente pop, assinando uma pequena e deliciosa fantasia de techno criada por aliens e não por robôs, pulsante (lá está…) nas suas delicadas melodias, apoiada em tranquila progressão rítmica e por isso mesmo bem mais apropriada para vaguear pelos confins do espaço do que para abanar o corpo numa pista de dança."
